USELESS STAR | PRESSURE FLIP RTI | EMBRYONIC DRIFT | CHARGER | TIME AND AGAIN

3/03/01: Written by Justin Hicks
This was a fun show despite walking into Higher Grounds a little guarded, thanks, in part, to the whole Q-Flat incident. (In case you haven't heard or were unable to get a copy of the October 2000 Issue of Liquid Magazine, I provided a large, fully readable scan at the bottom of this page.)

After being greeted by a very ecstatic industrial freak known only as "Jeff" I knew things were gonna be ok. He had waited there all day to see Moodring only to discover that they had broken up days before. Instead, the slot had been filled by our brothers in Love Muffin, who, despite Gabe's being under the weather and a shortened set [sorry guys!] managed to rock hard.

The first band on the bill was the newly reformed Nocturnum who had briefly changed their name to Cocytus. While the name, which means "River of Wailing" and is the 9th ring of hell in Dante's Inferno, is probably pronounced kO-sigh-tus, some unnamed people in another band camp had taken to calling them cock-itis. Though I'm not sure if this had anything to do with it, ex-Nocturnum announced that they still do not have a name.

At the end of their set, my parents arrived to my first gig in almost 7 years and most certainly the first ever Larvamind show. Apparently we did not disappoint. The pics on this page were all taken by my fiance, Dana "Zool" Scott. Though I thought at the time of their development that they were a decent example of our performance, Nixon's woman, Amanda Haley's, video proved otherwise. What these pictures didn't capture were the dozens of people behind the lens and a huge crowd of passerbys outside. Apparently highspeed disposable cameras don't exactly capture the spirit of rock and roll. Aside from the that, we also had a small tape recorder there who's reel may end up on the net sometime.

In the end, no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't manage to break any strings. Murphy's Law I suppose.
There's nothing more to add except that the very guy I was a bit worried about due to our last gig at Higher Grounds [one of the owners] actually followed me outside as I was packing up our gear to tell me how impressed he was. He compared us to Rush and said he was looking forward to seeing us again. Only time will tell what our relationship with Michiana holds...
